Banjarmasin Naval Base (Lanal) increased patrols to prevent drug smuggling in the waterways which are allegedly used by the drug network.
"I have instructed the ranks to continue synergizing with friends from Police and narcotics agency to jointly combat illicit drug trafficking," Commander (Danlanal) of Banjarmasin Naval Base Marine Colonel (P) Wijayanto said on Tuesday.
He was speaking to reporters on the sideline of a coffee morning with the maritime community held by the Banjarmasin Naval Base at Hasan Basri Hall of its headquarters here.
According to Wijayanto, sea lanes have indeed become one of the entry points for goods, including drug smuggling to South Kalimantan.
In addition to the official port at the Trisakti Harbor in Banjarmasin, a number of small ports which are often called rat lanes are also suspected to be used to supply these illicit goods.
"The principle is drugs is our enemies and it is the responsibility of all elements of society and agencies to eradicate them to help the National Police and National Narcotics Agency. The last case, Navy's Tabanio post personnel seized a package of methamphetamine and we handed it to BNNP South Kalimantan," said Wijayanto.
Banjarmasin Naval Base has the power of 187 personnel spread over 7 Naval Post (Posal) and 6 Observation Posts (Posmat) in its entire working area covering South Kalimantan and Central Kalimantan.
To maintain the security of the waters they are supported by 1 KAL, 2 Patkamla, 1 sea raider and speed patrols at each posal and posmat.
