The PT Dharma Lautan Utama ship company has enjoyed 80 percent of increase of its passengers during Idul Fitri 1440 Hijriah holidays for Banjarmasin - Surabaya destination.
DLU Banjarmasin General Manager Anton Wahyudi here on Friday said since D-30 of Idul Fitri the ships have transported 18,000 mudik (homebound) and return travellers or rose from 10,000 last year.
It was undenied that travellers have switched from air to sea transportation. because of very expensive price of air tickets lately.
Salmah, one of KM Dharma Kartika IX passengers, admitted, "It is my first time travelling by sea. It's passionate and journey is smooth."
She said, homebound travel by sea turned out to be enjoyable and supported with enough and comfortable facility.
The Tabalong District resident told she and her family used to travel by air in many years before, but this year they switched to sea transportation because of very high price of air ticket.
"We planned to go by air, but ticket to Surabaya jumped up to IDR3 million for each person, then we got an idea to go by sea and ticket price is only IDR 450,000," Salmah, who with three of her family, told.
