Martapura, South Kalimantan (Antaranews.Kalsel) - About 30 percent of protected forest or about 40 thousand hectares of the total area of 120 thousand hectares of Sultan Adam Forest Park in Banjar Regency, South Kalimantan Province, is now critical.

“This condition is really troubling, because this is a water catchment area  and  require rehabilitation efforts, "said Chief Adam Sultan Akhmad Tahura Ridhani Sunday.

However Ridhani Akhmad, who was speaking on the sidelines of tree planting by government officials led by the Regent Sultan Banjar Khairul Seleh, together with reporters, acknowledged that the number of critical areas is the result of data collection in 2007.

Recent data are not summarized yet, but its range is reduced due to the planting of tree seedlings distributed in the protected forest area. Until 2010, the critical land planted tree seedlings reached 100 hectares and its range will continue to be improved. The species were developed, such as ironwood, Kruing, sintuk and others.

Rehabilitation of land through tree planting program funded by both South Kalimantan provincial budget, the state budget and the help of a third party, including the Regional Water Company (PDAM) Banjarmasin.

The occurrence of critical land in the region is not due to illegal logging but more due to forest fire that made the surrounding area is not critical. In addition it was due to the opening of the fields and gardens for some local people to plant productive trees.
