Banjarmasin, S Kalimantan (ANTARA) - The Water and Air Police Unit (Satpolairud) together with Banjarmasin City Government sow 32,000 fish seeds in the waters of the Martapura River.
"There are two types of fish seeds that we sow, namely 22,000 catfish seeds and 10,000 kalabau fish seeds," said Chief of Satpolairud Comr Windy Saputra here on Friday.
The sowing of tens of thousands of fish seeds was carried out on Friday morning around 10:00 a.m., followed by the Banjarmasin City Food, Agriculture and Fisheries Agency.
The sowing of fish seeds is intended to cultivate the typical fish of the Martapura River and keep the fish ecosystem from growing.
The city government also provided counseling to coastal communities in order to maintain and preserve the fish that live in the river.
While Satpolairud will continue to maintain the security and order in river waters to avoid illegal fishing.
"Illegal fishing is a very prohibited way to catch fish. If we find it in this waters will immediately be dealt with in strict accordance with the applicable law," said the 2004 Academy of Police alumni.
Head of Fisheries Agency Ir Lauhem Mahfuz MAP said the sowing of fish seeds is often done in the waters of the Martapura River to keep the river fish ecosystem from extinction.
He was very grateful to Satpolairud for facilitating the means of patrol boats to sow fish seeds into the middle of the Martapura River.
"We urge the coastal river community not to take fish in a way that is prohibited by law such as electrocution, putas and water bombs," he pointed out.
The activity was attended by a number of Fisheries Office officials, West Banjarmasin Sub-District Head, Telaga Biru Village Head and fisheries extension officers, and Banjarmasin Satpolairud members.
