According to Hanif, the potential of bamboo in South Kalimantan reaches more than 3,000 hectares, of which the majority of bamboo plants are in the Loksado area, South Hulu Sungai.
At present, he added, the agency had planted 823 bamboo cultivation with 22 types of bamboo in the Sultan Adam Public Forest Park (Tahura) area. In addition, planting is also carried out in Kiram Village with 6,250 bamboo plants within an area of 40 hectares.
"At present we are planting bamboo together with the Governor in the area of 400 SKPD (government agencies)," he said in Banjarbaru on Friday.
The type of bamboo planted is golden bamboo or ornamental bamboo.
According to Hanif, efforts to plant large amounts of bamboo in an effort to meet the needs of craft raw materials, such as for skewers, toothpicks, and various woven bamboo.
The development of bamboo is the result of a cooperation of the Director General of Forestry with China.
Previously, the Forestry Agency had planted bamboo in Tahura Sultan Adam, because the area would become a bamboo arboretum to be used for research, education, and as ecotourism.
The arboretum is a kind of botanical garden that collects trees. In botanical gardens, collection plants are maintained and given names and some other information that is useful for visitors.
Two important additions to a botanical garden are the library and the herbarium.
