Jakarta (Antaranews Kalsel) - The Banjar Regency Government was awarded the Bupati Entrepreneur Award 2018 for the Health Category. The award was handed over by the founder of Innovation Network of Asia (INA) Ki Chan Kim to the Regent of Banjar H. Khalilurrahman at the INA Apkasi Awards 2018 at the Glass House Ritz Carlton Jakarta Pacific Palace, Jakarta, Wednesday (5/12).
The presentation was witnessed by the Minister of Cooperatives and Small and Medium Enterprises Anak Agung Gede Ngurah Puspayoga and Secretary General of the Interior Ministry Yuswandi A. Temenggung.
Banjar became one of 35 regencies and cities throughout Indonesia to receive an award, because of the environmental arrangement and public health were considered very important and became a benchmark for the success of the government led by Regent H. Khalilurrahman and Deputy Regent H. Saidi Mansyur.
Banjar is crossed by the Martapura River, which is used by the community for daily activities. But the river was polluted by around a thousand floating latrines along the river, which resulted in people's lives along the riverbank becoming unfit and the health status being low.
During three years of H. Khalilurrahman's leadership, Banjar produced several innovations, one of which was the removal of floating latrines along the Martapura River. During this period until the end of 2018 as many as 533 latrines had been demolished and targeted to 2020 as many as 1,000 latrines to be demolished.
The latrines were replaced with communal toilets (factory septic tanks) based on self-management by the community. The goal is to increase independence and a sense of belonging and responsibility. These innovations have a positive impact on both environmental health and public health and reducing river pollution.
