Banjarmasin, S Kalimantan (Antaranews Kalsel) - Head of the Banjarmasin Housing and Settlement Area A Fanani Syaifuddin said the handling of slums in the city is mostly assisted by the central government with state budget (APBN) funds.
This year, for example, the state budget fund included in the "Kotaku" (means City without Slum) Decree with a value of IDR35 billion. "Whereas our budget (APBD) only allocates IDR9 billion. So indeed the central assistance is very large," he said.
Fanani stated that with the attention of the central government in handling slums in the city, the target of the eradication was fairly fast. In the last five years, the "Kotaku" program of handling slum area has been targeted to covering 549 hectares, and now only 380 hectares left.
"Slum areas are evenly distributed in five sub-districts. At present there are 380 hectares we fix sooner next year," he explained.
The city government, said Fanani, in its effort to keep seeking to alter slums area to be habitable continues to receive support from the central government. The reason is that the city budget is still limited to only Rp1.5 trillion.
"If there is no assistance from the central government, of course, it is very difficult to convert the slum area because it still hundreds of hectares, where the heaviest constraints are to arrange the riverside area," he explained.
