Barabai, S Kalimantan (Antaranews Kalsel) - The Central Hulu Sungai (HST) Office of Religious Affairs Ministry (Kemenag) held a Qira'atul Kutub or reading the "yellow book" competition and a Friday sermon contest to enliven National Santri Day.
"The competition is attended by Islamic boarding school students in HST District," said Chief Organizing Committee H Edy Amin during the opening ceremony at the HST Kemenag Office Hall, Thursday (10/18).
The yellow book (Kitab kuning) refers to the traditional set of Islamic text used as curriculum in the Islamic school, including in Islamic boarding school and madrasah. The content in the Arabic language does not employ vowel marks (harakat),
According to him, the number of participants in the yellow book reading competition is 65 people from 9 Islamic boarding schools. They were divided into 3 categories, namely ula, wustha, and 'Ulya.
"The winners will get trophies and awards that will be given at the peak of the commemoration of santri day on October 22, 2018, at the Dwi Warna Barabai Square," he said.
Meanwhile, on that day Scout Contingent of the Darul Istiqamah Modern Islamic School was seen off. They represent the South Kalimantan as participants in the 5th Nusantara Santri Scout Campsite (PPSN) in Jambi. They previously won at the provincial level.
Acting Regent of HST, represented by Assistant for Economy and Development, H Pandiansyah, pointed out the role of Islamic boarding schools today is not only to gain religious knowledge but also to contribute to developing the talents and personality of the students.
"We hope that through this activity, in addition to friendship, it can also test the ability of students with the knowledge they gained during lodgings," he said.
