Kotabaru, S Kalimantan (Antaranews Kalsel) - Fishermen in Kotabaru District, South Kalimantan, received boat engine assistance from the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) through a fuel subsidy conversion program.
"In addition to boat engines, the ministry also provides assistance with two canisters of LPG for each boat engine," said Head of Kotabaru Fisheries and Maritime Agency Muchran here on Tuesday.
The gas is a package in the aid of a boat (locally known as ketinting) engine because the boat engine does not use fuel or diesel fuel, but LPG.
"According to the information we have received, this gas-fueled engine is more economical than using oil or diesel fuel," he said.
Muchran explained the assistance of the ketinting engine and gas is handed over to fishermen in two villages, namely Salino Village, Pulau Laut Tengah Subdistrict, totaling 186 units. Then 35 other units distributed to fishermen in Sungai Nyamuk Village, Sampanahan Subdistrict.
Requirements to get the engine and gas, including fishing cards and boats that have engines less than 7 Gross Tonnage (GT).
"Initially we proposed as many as 636 fishermen to get assistance, but only 221 fishermen approved," he explained.
This assistance is the first for fishermen in Kotabaru.
