Banjarmasin, S Kalimantan (AntaranewsKalsel) - The Food and Drug Monitoring Agency (BPOM) in Banjarmasin still finds a number of products whose permit does not apply, when officers conducted a sudden inspection to a number of supermarkets on Wednesday afternoon.
"As in Giant Ekstra, we found 12 items that are not worthy to be traded," explained Head of BPOM Banjarmasin Dr. Muhammad Guntur.
BPOM found some expired products, such as Pronas Classic brand cornet beef and King's Fisher brand sardines.
BPOM requested that the expired item to be withdrawn, including products with broken packaging such as dents, convex or smooth leaks.
"For the broken packs found on canned biscuit and boxed milk, then there are also some fruits seem to rot or not fresh," Guntur remarked.
He asserted, products that do not have authorized distribution or valid permit from the BPOM means that the product has not been through the process of evaluating safety, quality, and nutrition, so it is very risky to health.
"So the most important thing to be noted by the seller is a marketing authorization and the expiration period, not to sell unsecured products, because we will act decisively if violated," he reminded.
Even so, Guntur admitted that BPOM who joined in an integrated team with South Kalimantan Trade Agency, Health Agency also South Kalimantan Police Directorate of Special Crime Investigation (Ditreskrimsus) still provide a warning to no longer display the product.
If it is found again, Guntur stipulated, in accordance with Law No. 18/2012 on Food, article 140 regarding food safety standards and article 142 concerning marketing authorization, management or shopkeepers may be subject to a 2 year imprisonment or maximum fine Rp4 billion.
In addition, it violates Law Number 8/1999 regarding Consumer Protection Article 62 regarding the required standard and may be subject to a maximum imprisonment of 5 years or a fine of up to Rp2 billion.
The sudden inspection by BPOM with an integrated team was to anticipate the circulation of non-standard food products in the holy month of Ramadan, as it increases the buying and selling activity during fasting until the Eid al-Fitr.
Giant Ekstra Store Manager Fachrur Rozy promised to immediately coordinate with suppliers related to the discovery of products whose circulation permit does not apply.
"We make sure all items that do not meet the standards of BPOM are withdrawn all to be replaced," he said.
