Banjarmasin, (Antaranews South Kalimantan) - Head of South Kalimantan Health Agency H Muhammad Muslim revealed three more areas in the province are proposed to receive a malaria-free certificate.
He said South Kalimantan already has five districts/cities that got the certificate of elimination of malaria from the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Indonesia.
The five districts and cities are Banjarmasin, Banjarbaru, South Hulu Sungai (HSS), Barito Kuala (Batola) and North Hulu Sungai (HSU).
"While the three regions proposed this year will receive the same certificates as Tapin, Tanah Laut, and Balangan districts," said Muhammad Muslim.
These three areas, he said, have been able to suppress the rate of contracting malaria disease caused by Plasmodium parasites from female Anopheles mosquitoes.
"Malaria is not the same as dengue fever if the dengue fever is caused by Aedes aegypti mosquito virus," he explained.
However, he said, the two diseases caused by mosquito bites are equally harmful to health, can even lead to fatalities.
