Kotabaru government promotes local food ingredients

Kotabaru, S Kalimantan (ANTARA) - The Food Security and Agriculture Office in collaboration with the Kotabaru Family Empowerment and Welfare driving team (TP-PKK) promoted healthy and nutritious local food ingredients through East Delicious, East Healthy and East B2SA (Diverse, Nutritious, Balanced, and Safe) Movement Festival.

The Kotabaru TP PKK Chairwoman Suci Anisa Rusli said this event was held to campaign a diverse, nutritious, balanced, and safe food consumption by utilizing the potential of local vegetables and fruits.

“My deepest thanks to all parties for the success of this locally-based vegetables and fruit competition, East Delicious, East Healthy and East B2SA which is participated by all the sub-district TP-PKK in Kotabaru,” she said here as reported on Wednesday.

She explained that it is daily eating pattern will ensure adequate nutritional intake, not the price or prestige of certain food.

"Many types of food around us are unexpensive, natural, safe, and nutritious,” she said.

She urged all parties, relevant government agencies, especially the sub-district head's wife as the chair of TP-PKK, to pay greater attention to food issues, so that the next generation will be healthier and have better quality.

Head of Kotabaru Food Security and Agriculture Office Sarawani said that this event was held to explore alternative food other than rice based on local resources, and to raise public awareness of the importance of consuming diverse, nutritious, balanced, and safe food to improve the quality of life.

“The festival aims to promote regional specialties, so they are popular and able to compete with modern food choices, as well as to prepare B2SA food for toddlers and pregnant women,” he explained.

With the local culture-based food, it is hoped that Kotabaru will have its own unique regional cuisine.

The competition was judged by a panel of judges who expert in their respective fields, including from Food Security and Agriculture Office, Health Office, Kotabaru TP-PKK, culinary observer chef and Hotel Grand Surya Chef.
