Barabai, S Kalimantan, Oct 10 (Antara) - The district administration of Hulu Sungai Tengah, South Kalimantan said it hopes to open 500 hectares of soybean plantations utilizing assistance from the central government.
Head of the district plantation and horticulture service Zainuddin said soybean is the main farm product in the district, adding the crop plantations, therefore, would be expanded with support from the central government.
"The first new plantation would be o0pened in the village of Karatungan in sub-district of Limpasu and other villages," Zainuddin said here on Tuesday.
In the sub-district of Limpasu , 60 hectares of soybean plantations would be opened involving eight groups of farmers. In the village of Karatungan, there will be 10 hectares.
Soybean plantations would also be opened in various areas in the district in line with the studies carried o9ut by University of Lambung Mangkurat (ULM).
The country is still heavily dependence on import for soybean, which is widely used in the country as foodstuf. ***3*** (AS)
