Banjarmasin, S Kalimantan (ANTARA) - Banjarmasin City Government together with the city's Disaster Mitigation Agency (BPBD) sprayed disinfectant fluid to the traditional market to contain the new coronavirus disease (COVID-19).
Mayor Ibu Sina who leads the action on Saturday (March 28, 2020) said, the sterilization would not interfere with market operation.
"There is no closure of traditional markets. I just hope traders and visitors improve hygiene and always maintain health, among others by washing hands and wearing a mask," he said.
Previously on Friday (March 27) mayor lead the disinfection in the market and other public facilities in the city.
The disinfectant spraying also was also carried out by the Banjarmasin Police Chief, Commander of 1007 Military Command in all area of Pasar Baru Permai shopping area, both the inner and outer aisles.
In the city, the disinfecting of public facilities took place in the last few days.
"Thank you for the cooperation of traders who have partially closed their markets, but I make sure that the market remains open as usual. Hopefully, our effort will at least reduce the spread of COVID-19," he said.
The city government planned to disinfect all markets in Banjarmasin, including Antasari Market in order to provide a sense of security and comfort to traders and the public who do activities in the market.
Previously it was rumored that the city government would close traditional markets during the emergency response period. But this information was denied by the city government and it is proven that up to now the traditional markets are still open.
