Tanjung, S Kalimantan (ANTARA) - The Adaro Bangun Negeri Foundation (YABN) initiated environmental changes in a number of areas, precisely in Tabalong and Balangan Districts through Cleanup Day activities.
All levels of society participated in massive clean-up actions, ranging from students to housewives.
In addition to cleaning up, planting hundreds of trees was carried out in a number of areas. YABN built a commitment with the community to reduce the plastic waste.
Since the first year of running until 2018 there have been 60,000 participants involved in this activity and have succeeded in cleaning up tens of tons of garbage.
This action directly supports the hard work of the districts in an effort to win the cleanest and greenest city award of Adipura.
Not only cleanup action, YABN Operation Section Head Deri Anggraeni said they directly run an environmental conservation program in the form of bamboo planting in an effort to reduce landslides on the river banks in Tabalong and Balangan Districts.
"More than 5,000 more bamboos are planted with the community to prevent erosion due to sweeping river currents," Deri explained.
Together with the community, YABN also formed a farmer group in Halong village, Haruai sub-district, by providing guidance in the form of developing a bamboo nursery business and becoming an additional economic resource for the villagers.
YABN always strives to build energy change to create a community friendly environment in a number of regions for a better environment.
This is in line with the theme of World Environment Day 2019 which is fighting pollution. According to WHO data, around 7 million people die from air pollution every year.
