The Tanah Laut Forest Management Units (KPH) together with various elements of the community planting 300 trees in the Green Open Space (RTH) of Kijang Mas Pelaihari, Saturday (3/16) marking the commemoration of Foresters' Service Day in 2019.


Acting Head of Tanah Laut KPH I Gede Arya Subakti said that tree planting on Forest Service Day was held simultaneously throughout Indonesia.

"This activity (in Tanah Laut) was attended by around 200 people from the TNI, Police, KPH, NGOs, students and scouts," he said.

The plants planted in the activity, he said, consisted of Ketapang Kencana, Mahogany and Tanjung trees.

To add to the collection at RTH Kijang Mas Pelaihari, he said, his party also prepared rare plants namely, Ulin.

"In 2018 we have carried out tree planting of around 38 thousand hectares and in 2019 it is planned to plant trees for 49 thousand hectares," he said.

Separately, Regent H Sukamta, who delivered a speech from the Minister of Environment and Forestry Siti Nurbaya said that one of the ecosystems that is very important for environmental sustainability is forests.

Records show that over a long period of time, since the forest register system and Agreement on Forest Use (TGHK) to forests according to the spatial concept, there has been an evolution of forest areas from 147 million hectares in 1978 to 134 million hectares in 1999.

"From 1999 to 2009 it became 126 million hectares until now," he said.
