Tanjung, S Kalimantan (Antaranews Kalsel) - Tabalong District is not only rich in coal mining but also has potential fisheries resources specifically for freshwater fish.


Evidently, in one year this fishery production in 'Bumi Saraba Kawa' (nickname of Tabalong) reached 13,093 tons with the most cultivation from ponds and fish cages.

"The expansion of cage ponds and tarpaulins is done to increase local fish production," explained the Head of Production and Cultivation Business Section of the agency Rahmani.

Data collection for pond fish production was 6,755 tons, cages were 6,273 tons and minapadi (combined farming) 64.4 tons.

Of the 12 sub-districts in Tabalong, Banua Lawas Subdistrict and its surroundings have become centers for fish cultivation with the number of cages reaching 1,424.

Nearly 37 percent of cage fish cultivation is centered in this fish center and the total business of cages is spread in Tabalong reaching 3,851.

In addition, the Fisheries Agency has developed the cultivation of round tarps for the production of freshwater fish, such as papuyu or betok (climbing perch/ Anabas testudineus), catfish, patin, gouramy and sapat siam.
