Banjarmasin, S Kalimantan (Antaranews South Kalimantan) - The Banjarmasin City Government introduced the three S program to 23 students from Banten participating in the Siswa Mengenal Nusantara (SMN) program in Banjarmasin organized by the state-owned enterprise (BUMN) Bulog and PT Timah.
Head of Education Agency Totok Agus Daryanto here on Wednesday said the first S (Sungai) means river, as Banjarmasin known for its nickname "The City of a Thousand Rivers". Here rivers cross the city and connecting one to other places.
People who come here, such as tourists, enjoy the city through its river tourism. Cruising river tourism is now being developed.
Base on the history, Totok said, part of the rivers in Banjarmasin were deliberately made by the Dutch government in the form of canals those widely available in the center of the city. The rest are natural rivers.
"If there is a straight river not winding, it an artificial river. Thus if the canals built around the city are used for transportation systems, then Banjarmasin will resemble Amsterdam," he said.
While the second S is sasirangan, which is a typical cloth of South Kalimantan. The original has a striking base color, such as red, green and yellow. But in its development, many sasirangan have soft color.
The third S, he added, is Soto Banjar. If other provinces in Indonesia have Soto Madura, Soto Surabaya, Coto Makassar and others, then in South Kalimantan there is a Soto Banjar.
This typical cuisine is one of the most famous culinary both in Kalimantan and nationally.
"So it is a very loss if tourists who come to Banjarmasin do not enjoy the delicious Soto Banjar," he said.
Banten exemplary teacher Retno Siswanto said the students of the SMN program were selected students who had various achievements both at provincial and national levels. This program is expected to sharpen the ability and insight of the students to explore various potentials and diversity of Indonesia.
In addition to studying the economic and cultural potential, they here also learned about the defense of the country from Korem (Provincial Military Commander Area of) 101 Antasari and journalistic training, training in making scientific works and book review from LKBN Antara and the University of Lambung Mangkurat.
