Banjarmasin, S Kalimantan (AntaranewsKalsel) - South Kalimantan Governor Sahbirin Noor expects private companies to prioritize recruiting local workers to reduce unemployment and improve the welfare of the people in the province.

According to the Governor, the existence of companies and industries in the regions will have more impact for the improvement of people's welfare, if they open employment opportunities for the surrounding community, in addition to the follow-up impact that will usually grow the small and medium business sector.

"I hope that local labor is a top priority in employee recruitment, and I am sure that entrepreneurs can understand the purpose of why local workers are preferred," he said in Banjarmasin on Thursday.

According to Sahbirin, especially in South Kalimantan, the welfare of workers continues to increase from year to year, which is indicated by the increase in provincial minimum wage.

Earlier, Chairman of the Indonesian Employers Association (Apindo) of South Kalimantan, Supriadi said the number of foreign workers entering South Kalimantan is still reasonable.
