Banjarmasin, S Kalimantan (AntaranewsKalsel) - Lambung Mangkurat University (ULM) now becomes the official branch of Cambridge English Assessment, which is part of Cambridge University, England.


ULM Rector Prof. Dr. H Sutarto Hadi and Cambridge University delegation Joana Raskin, as Regional Head of Southeast Asia, on Thursday (26/4), signed the cooperation.

"This is a strategic move for ULM can hold Cambridge University to improve the ability of English-speaking for students in the global era when English language skills are very crucial," Sutarto said.

ULM continues to encourage more students to be sent abroad, among them through student exchange programs, internships or teaching practices that have been implemented by the Faculty of Teacher Training and Education (FKIP).

"With this partnership, starting 2018 all prospective graduates and lecturers will gain active English proficiency and international certificate from Cambridge University through UPT Pusat Bahasa (Technical Implementation Unit of ULM Language Center) as Cambridge Preparation Center," he said.

The signing of the MoU between ULM and Cambridge University was attended by Deputy Head of Mission Rob Fenn and Education Manager Rachmalia Nikijuluw representing Moazzam Malik as the British Ambassador to Indonesia.

Joana Raskin said that cooperation with leading universities in Kalimantan, such as ULM, is considered strategic as a model of development and standardization of English proficiency in higher education which can then be extended to elementary and junior high school in this area.

In addition to English curriculum development, their cooperation also includes the recognition and use of the Cambridge English exam as a qualification standard and proof of English proficiency for every college graduate as well as English certification and training for lecturers.
