Kotabaru, S Kalimantan (AntaranewsKalsel) - The Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) in 2019 will build a power plant from coal gasification technology in Pulau Laut with a capacity of 7 megawatts.

Chairman of Commission III DPRD Kotabaru Denny Hendro Kurnianto informed this on Tuesday after the visit to the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources' Director General of New Energy, Renewable Energy and Conservation (EBTKE) in Jakarta.

"The consultation to the ministry is a follow up to the government program to complete the electricity connection to all regions in Kotabaru by 2019," said Denny.

He said nationally the central government is targeting the distribution of electricity connections in remote villages throughout Indonesia by 2023.

To support the achievement of the target, he said, the central government uses the application of coal gasification technology, namely the conversion of coal to the gas used for power generation, which is considered more efficient and supported by the availability of coal.

With a capacity of 7 MW, the PPP politician revealed that the power deficit for the Kotabaru needs will soon be resolved, especially for remote areas that are looking forward to electricity to their homes.

Denny mentioned that along with the preparation of power plant construction from gasification coal which is located in Sigam Village, North Pulau Laut, the government keeps adding network in some areas.

The network connections are either sourced from existing plants, or through solar cell programs in remote areas with a quota of about 1,800 units for the whole of Indonesia.

"Unfortunately, Kotabaru in 2018 has not received an allocation yet, but it is promised that in 2019 it will get a budget with this year's requirement to apply," said Denny.
