Paringin, S Kalimantan (AntaranewsKalsel) - a number of endemic rare Kalimantan fruits still grow in Marajai Village, Halong Sub-district, Balangan Regency, South Kalimantan. 

Marajai supply most durian for durian traders in Balangan. However, this village not only has a common durian. 

     

Here we find various species of durian. There is a red-skinned durian called lahung (Durio Dulcis), it also has a yellow durian locally known as mantaula (Durio kutejensis), there is even a dark green durian with long tapered spines called mahrawin (Durio oxleyanus), and there are still other types of durian. 

Marajai also has nine types of tarap. It is a typical fruit similar to breadfruit. Her skin is like rubber. If we touch, the skin will stick to the hand. Some of it kind are kulidang (Artocarpus lanceifolius roxb), and puyian (Artocarpus rigidus). 

Other fruits identified in the village part of the Meratus Mountains are Silulung (Baccaurea angulata) maritam (Nephelium ramboutan-ake) bumbunau (Aglaia laxiflora), babuku (Dimocarpus longan subspecies malesianus), luying or luing (Scutinanthe brunnea). 

   

Then there is also kapul (Baccaurea macrocarpa), kalangkala (Litsea garciae), gitaan or tampirik (Willughbeia angustifolia), and kumbayau (Dacroydes rostrata).

"We are grateful that there is still a land area overlaid with various typical fruits of Kalimantan, and not used for a superior rubber and palm garden as other lands in this region," said Hanif Waicaksono. 

     

Village Head Marajai Adi Setiawan promised to invite the landowners of these fruits to care for and developing them more broadly so that their village could become a center of endemic rare fruits of Kalimantan. 

Marajai Village in Halong Sub-district is populated by 197 family heads or 578 inhabitants.
