Barabai, South Kalimantan (AntaraNewsKalsel) - Vice Regent of Central Hulu Sungai (HST) H Ahmad Chairansyah shoulder to shoulder with farmers in catching mice.

Located on the farm of Panggung Village, Haruyan Sub-district, Wednesday (15/11), the action was done with smoke bombs or substance use for making firecrackers put into rat holes.

Chairman of the Bina Bersama farmers union group (Gapoktan) Norifandi said the rat raid was done for two days to at least reduce the pest of rats that have been eating agricultural products, especially rice.

"This activity is a community initiative by mutual cooperation assisted by agriculture counseling team (PPL) with the hope that our farm gets more maximum results and this year avoids the pest of rats," he said.

The Vice Regent also expressed this rat pest have 40 to 60 percent destroyed farming products.

"This causes our agricultural output was not maximal, so this action needs to be done routinely, maybe once a week or as often as possible," Chairansyah said.

He invites people to fight pest rats, although there is a myth that this rat pest should be left alone not to be resisted.

According to him, the increased rat pest attacks are usually caused by the lack of anticipation in the form of mass movement of land clearing and smoking of mouse holes before planting.
