Kotabaru, South Kalimantan 30/9 (AntaranewsKalsel) - Kotabaru has moved up two ranks from eighth to sixth in tenth South Kalimantan Provincial Sports Week (Porprov) in Tabalong.


Secretary of the Kotabaru branch of National Sports Committee (KONI) Rony Syafriansyah here on Saturday said the first-day Kotabaru was in the eighth position of 13 districts and cities in South Kalimantan, after obtaining one silver medal.

"Alhamdulillah, today Kotabaru is in sixth place with three medals, one gold, one silver and one bronze," he said.

The gold medal won by Rendi Aditya in the 74-kilogram wrestling match, silver medal by Siska Wahyuni ??Alfia in 48 kg class and bronze won by Dimas in 61 kg class. Three medals are obtained from seven of 14 classes to be followed by about 18 Kotabaru athletes.

Wrestling is one of about 29 sport that is followed by Kotabaru of the 30 sports competed in Porprov in Tabalong. Kotabaru targets the top five with 40 golds, 30 silver, and 40 bronze medals.

"It's a bit hard to realize this target, because of our athletes' preparation was less due to the budget, but we remain enthusiastic and confident that God willing the target can be realized," said Rony.

Meanwhile, the Kotabaru contingent is planned to be officially released at the October 2 ceremony and depart for Tabalong on 5 October. With 560 athletes and officials, the Kotabaru contingent is among the largest.
