The government of Hulu Sungai Tengah (HST) District, South Kalimantan, has formed six Food Brigade groups to support food self-sufficiency as the main focus of the Asta Cita program initiated by President Prabowo Subianto.

“Food Brigade are millinneal farmers who are ready to support the Ministry of Agriculture's land optimization (OPLAH). They will receive assistance from both TNI and Agriculture Agency,” said Head of HST Agriculture Agency Budi Satrya Tanjung in Barabai, Hulu Sungai Tengah, Friday.

In accordance with the direction of Agriculture Minister,  one Food Brigade consists of 15 millennial farmers to manage a minimum of 200 hectares of land.

“The Food Brigade will be supported with peralatan pertanian modern agricultural equipment to support their work in land optimization program. Two rice combine machines have arrived to support this program,” he said. 

Budi said the two machines are for Food Brigade in Buluan Village, Pandawan Sub-district, and Tabat Village, Labuan Amas Utara Sub-district.

The Food Brigade will also receive sophisticated equipment such as drone and others, but they will be provided in stages.

He hopes this program can run optimally in HST District so it provides promising results to increase people's economic income, especially millennial farmers.

“Previously, we proposed nine Food Brigades, currently six have been approved. We hope that agricultural activities in this area to run more optimally with the presence of millennial farmers,” said Budi.
