The government of Tanah Bumbu District, South Kalimantan Province, will begin to construct Sungai Kusan Dam in early 2025 and it will cost around IDR2.7 trillion.
Tanah Bumbu Regent H. Zairullah Azhar in Batulicin, Wednesday, said the dam construction will be funded by PT Guang Yin New Energy Indonesia, a foreign investor from China.
"The regional government and the management of PT Guang Yin New Energy Indonesia have inked a memorandum of understanding (MoU) as a basis for follow up on the dam construction," said Zairullah.
Related to legality of land, he said that Tanah Bumbu government has received the Ministry of Environment and Forestry's approval for the utilization of forest area for the location of the dam.
He also described that Kusan dam will be built on a 2,000 hectares land with dam and reservoir coverage reaching two square kilometers and a maximum inundation area of 2,057.77 hectares.
The dam is also capable of holding about 135.20 million metric flood water and supplying irrigation water to irrigate 18.300-28.000 hectares of rice fields.

It has a capacity of 0.5 cubic meter/second to supply the need of clean water system.
"The dam also has the potential to be a hydroelectric power plant with a capacity of 41 megawatts, as well as the potential to be a tourist attraction," he said.
Zairullah said that the Sungai Kusan Dam construction had been a dream of the community for a long time. After a long wait, it is finally realized through investment by a Chinese company.
President Director of PT Guang Yin Wang Jin, through a language translator, explained his side was interested in investing in building Kusan Dam, because Tanah Bumbu has a very good natural potential to be developed.
"This is our first investment in Indonesia and in the process we will apply green energy technology to help reduce carbon pollution," said Wang Jin.
Wang Jin said that the company has worked on many green energy project in China, but the construction of Sungai Kusan Dam is the first in Indonesia.
Guang Yin received the information about this project through the Expo held by the National Association of District Governments of Indonesia (Apkasi) in Jakarta some time ago.
