Indonesian Ambassador to Jordan and Palestine Ade Parmo Sarwono confirmed that Indonesian nationals in Jordan remain safe despite the country bordering Palestine's West Bank and Israel, which are embroiled in war.

"The condition of (Indonesian nationals) is good; (they are) not directly affected because Jordan is among the most stable countries in the region," Sarwono stated after attending the 2024 Indonesia-made Products Business Seminar and Exhibition agenda here on Thursday local time.

The ambassador affirmed that the embassy is taking contingency measures to protect Indonesians in Jordan and regularly coordinating with the Foreign Ministry.

The ambassador stated that Indonesians in other Arab countries such as Lebanon, Syria, and even Israel -- though the number is not significant -- are also instructed to prepare themselves in case an evacuation is ordered.

However, due to Jordan's stable security condition despite its proximity to the conflict zone, no evacuation order has been issued, and Indonesians in Jordan can continue with their daily activities.

"We are engaging in communication (with Indonesians in Jordan), allowing prompt response in case an evacuation is ordered," he added.

Sarwono also confirmed that almost half of the 1,500 Indonesian nationals recorded in Jordan are university students.

Moreover, the ambassador said that the embassy is also monitoring Indonesians working as volunteers under the World Health Organisation (WHO) in the Gaza Strip. The volunteers are working for a definite period and are replaced regularly.

Sarwono stated that since the crossing to Gaza from Egypt was closed, the only access for Indonesian volunteers to enter the Palestinian territory was through Jordan.
