Tanjung, South Kalimantan (AntaranewsKalsel) - A total of 31 people died in traffic accidents in Tabalong, South Kalimantan, from January to August 2016.

Tabalong Traffic Police Chief AKP Fauzan Arianto in Tanjung on Friday said traffic accidents caused fatalities mostly occured on Trans Kalimantan roads, including in Muara Uya and Haruai.

"Of the 44 occurrences of traffic accidents, 31 people died and 17 people seriously injured and 22 others slightly injured," said Fauzan.

The cause of the traffic accidents were still dominated by human factors, such as negligence or violation of traffic, particularly traffic signs violations.

Traffic police unit itself continues to intensify socialization among students and public community to obey traffic discipline ranging from the use of helmets, the signs and not reckless when driving on public roads.

Not only the traffic police, the local Agency of Transportation, Communication and Information also held socialization on orderly traffic for high school students in collaboration with the Directorate General of Land Transportation.

Besides the application of canalization in Tanjung - Mabuun main roads as one of local government efforts to reduce the number of traffic accidents.
