The Provincial Government of South Kalimantan sent 647 individuals to represent the province in the 7th National Recreational Sports Festival (FORNAS) in Bandung District, West Java. 


“This is the effort of government to develop and improvesport achievements in South Kalimanta,” Governor Sahbirin Noor remarked as he simbolically sent off the province's contingent in Banjarmasin, Wednesday.

He encouraged the contingent to bag as many medals as possible as a capital to advance the sport in the province.

Sahbirin hopes South Kalimantan athletes to present their best performance to make the province proud on the national level.

“However, the health of the athletes is also the main thing that must be paid attention in order to be able to give the best performance,” he said.

He also appealed to all athletes to always uphold sportmanship because sportmanship when competing is the main thing that must be shown by an athlete.

Head of South Kalimantan Youth and Sports Office Hermansyah said that people's interest in traditional and recreation sports is quite high.

“The number of participants who took part in the selection was quite a lot. this year South Kalimantan will take part in 40 sporting events,” he said.

Hermansyah hopes that South Kaliamntan contingent wil be able to reach the Top 10 position.

A total of 647 individuals who joined the South Kaliamntan contingent consisted of athletes, officials, companions, and observers.

The 7th FORNAS will be held in Bandung District, West Java, on July 2-9, 2023.

After being sent off simbolically by Governor Sahbirin, South Kalimantan contingent will depart for Bandung on  July 1.

The government held the traditional sports festivals (Fornas) as part of its efforts to preserve traditional sports in Indonesia which are being replaced by technology-based games.

The traditional sports festival is held to revive enthusiasm among children, especially students, to play traditional games in their regions.
