The District Government of Central Hulu Sungai (HST) is intensifying program to reduce plastic waste by socializing its strategies and plant trees to implement a clean, beautiful and healthy environment.

"Central Hulu Sungai has a HST No Plastic program as an effort to reduce piles of plastic waste," Regent Aulia Oktafiandi noted in a press statement here, Wednesday.

He said the program was a step by the district government to address the rise of plastic waste piles that are difficult for the community to control.

"We are promoting the use of plastic not only for single use but can be used for other needs," he said.

Aulia said this is one of solution to reduce plastic piles in landfills (TPA).

According to him, the solution is quite measurable and planned in terms of technical implementation.

His party also encourages people not to use short-term plastic packaging which causes an increasing volume of plastic waste in landfills.

In an environmental discussion, Aulia emphasized that plastic waste must be seriously addressed because it can cause widespread pollution of the land and air environment.

The discussion was coupled with the planting of 70 mahogany trees around the Manggasang attraction, Hantakan Sub-district, HST Regency.

He hopes that his party and the community can commit to reducing the use of plastic.

He also advised the community to be role models for reducing waste and disseminating information about the importance of proper waste management in everyday life.

Meanwhile, Head of the HST Environment and Transportation Office (DLHP) Mursidi acknowledged that the district is facing a plastic waste problem.

"Plastic waste is increasing day by day, activities like this are important to increase public awareness," he said.

Mursidi said the piles of garbage, especially plastic, were not only affected by a lack of public awareness, but also caused by the rapid population growth.
