National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB) Head Suharyanto instructed agency officials to bolster pre-disaster preparations ahead of the G20 Summit in Bali on November 15-16, 2022.

"Enhance personnel capacity and conduct routine checks on supporting equipment. Personnel and equipment preparations are the indicators of our capability in mitigating disasters," Suharyanto noted as per the statement on Monday.

Suharyanto made the remarks while observing preparations made by the Bali Regional Disaster Mitigation Agency (BPBD) to mitigate natural disaster potentials during the G20 Summit in Denpasar, Bali, Sunday (November 13).

Apart from observing the system to monitor weather in Bali, the BNPB head also observed the coordination process between the Bali BPBD operation control centre team with city- and district-level BPBDs.

Bali BPBD also showed the earthquake early warning monitoring system integrated with the national Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) to Suharyanto and the BNPB officials.

During the visit, the BNPB head highlighted the need for daily patrols to observe and monitor on-site locations to ensure disaster mitigation steps could proceed before the disaster strikes.

"Conduct routine patrol and bolster (your) vigilance, particularly in anticipating disaster potentials caused by the weather factor," he emphasized.

Meanwhile, Bali BPBD Executive Head I Made Rentin stated that monitoring activities will be intensified ahead of the G20 Summit in the province.

"We will assure security and anticipation measures on natural disaster potentials by deploying personnel and supporting equipment to (G20 Summit) venues in Nusa Dua," he said.

The Bali BPBD official stated that his agency, along with the BNPB, has deployed GSM-based disaster early warning system apparatus, digital radio for communication, and vehicles to Indonesia G20's COVID-19 Monitoring and Health Protocol Control Post in Nusa Dua, Badung, Bali.
