Banjarmasin, South Kalimantan (AntaranewsKalsel) - Teluk Dalam Prison in Banjarmasin is the second most densely inhabited in Indonesia, because of over-capacity.


Head of the Corrections Division of South Kalimantan Regional Office of Law and Human Rights Ministry (Kemenkumham) Harun Sulianto here on Sunday said based on data the prison is 600 percent excess of capacity.

The facility was designed only to accomodate as many as 400 inmates, but infact now Teluk Dalam Prison even overcrowded with 2,400 inmates.

"Teluk Dalam Prison should have renovations in order to be enlarged, so there is no over-capacity," he told AntaranewsKalsel reporter.

on other side, Harun said, the 2,400 inmates in the prison every day only guarded by 14 officers. As a result, each officer must work extra optimally so that life in prison can be handled with safe, peaceful and orderly.

Especially in the visiting hours. The number of visitors who come to prison could reach 500.

"To that every officer must be extra careful and cautious in performing duties not to be careless or negligent, because many persons who wish to enter illicit goods such as drugs into the prison," he said.
