Banjarmasin, South Kalimantan (AntaranewsKalsel) - The Banjarmasin City Sanitation and Gardening Agency (DKP) continues to develop free methane gas for community around the final garbage disposal (TPA) Basirih that stores much of the gas.

"If last year we distributed free methane gas from the TPA Basirih to 50 households, now (in 2016) we increased 30 thus amounted to 80," said Head of DKP H Muhyar when answered AntaranewsKalsel on the sidelines of TPA monitoring by the Adipura monitoring team, Wednesday.

He plans to continue increase the utilization of methane gas from the landfill (TPA) free of charge to people around TPA Basirih, as the increasing disposal to match the capacity or the existing land area, which is more than 39 hectares.

TPA Basirih methane gas up till now only for the fulfillment of fuel for gas stove, but not yet for household lighting.

"We want to expand the landfill, but it seems difficult, because it belongs to people and it looks overlap in ownership. In addition, we still waiting for the regional landfill plan," said Muhyar.

Previously, a weighbridge post worker at Basirih landfill explained the waste that goes into landfills every day or within 24 hours about 500 tons.

Meanwhile, Adipura Monitoring Team from the Ministry of Environment and Forestry (LHK) Ponidi checked the truth of free distribution of methane gas.

However, these checks only on the network installation, not to the people who get free methane gas because of its relative remoteness and the condition of the damaged road to the settlement.
