The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) begins the third G20 Anti-Corruption Working Group (ACWG) meeting in Canberra, Australia, from Monday to Thursday.

This meeting is part of Indonesia's G20 Presidency in 2022 themed "Recover Together Recover Stronger," Acting Spokesperson for KPK Ipi Maryati Kuding noted in a statement, Monday.

According to the G20 website, the ACWG, under the G20 sherpa track, sets minimum common standards between legal systems of G20 countries as a means to prevent and combat corruption.

G20 is an international forum comprising 19 countries and the European Union that work together to handle major issues. Indonesia is holding the presidency of the grouping this year.

KPK, as the ACWG Chair, and Australia, as the Co-Chair, held the meeting twice to discuss issues related to anti-corruption.

The first ACWG meeting was held in a hybrid format on March 28-31, 2022, here, while the second meeting was held offline on July 5-8, 2022, in Bali.

During the two meetings, delegations from G20 member countries provided their support to Indonesia as the presidency that raised four main issues in anti-corruption, she stated.

The event then continues to the third meeting in Australia that discussed bolstering the role of audit in corruption eradication, among other matters.

The earlier meetings had agreed to make this issue into a High Level Principle (HLP), so the points of agreement will be a policy document that binds and should be implemented in future, she noted.

The meeting will also discuss public participation and anti-corruption education as well as framework on regulation monitoring and supervision toward legal profession regulation on graft money laundering.

In the earlier meetings, it was agreed that the two issues would become a compendium of best practice that can be implemented, whether by G20 member countries or the international world, Maryati explained.

Corruption prevention in the renewable energy sector will also be discussed, she stated.

This issue was agreed to be incorporated in a background paper for which the discussion will be continued to the next presidency.

The third ACWG meeting in Australia is the last meeting before the G20 Summit on November 15-16, 2022, Bali, she stated.

The KPK expects that during the third ACWG meeting, delegations can reach an agreement in discussing points on these main issues.

The agreement can help to improve corruption-eradication efforts, not just for G20 member countries but also the international world.

As a result, such corruption eradication efforts can provide positive impacts to the global economic growth that is recovering from the COVID-19 pandemic, she stated.
