Banjarmasin, South Kalimantan (Antaranews) - Clean water supply from the regional water company PDAM Bandarmasih to local urban communities is disrupted during the dry season.
Martapura River salinity level is high enough when intruded by seawater. Consequently taps has shortage of raw materials to process clean water, said PDAM Banjarmasih Director General Rahmatullah to the press at his office on Monday.
Barito River water and Martapura River which divides the city of Banjarmasin, lately intruded by sea water, following the rain has not been falling the last few months.
Salt content in the water of Barito river and Martapura river so high above threshold against the raw water taps to be processed into clean water.
Ideally salinity in the raw water to be processed only 250 ml per liter. Now salinity in the Barito River reaches 3000 ml per liter, and 1000 ml per liter in Bilu River, Martapura River, which is the water
intake for PDAM.
As a result, retrieval of raw water to the river no maximum, resulting in a decrease in the production of clean water taps. So sometimes water taps to drag customers, especially at night, or rush hour.
But in general the water supply taps can still serve 100 percent of the city but not like a typical day. Luckly PDAM has another raw water source in Tabuk River, or the upper reaches of the Martapura River which is not intruded by seawater.
