Paskibraka (the national flag-hoisting team) for the District of Kotabaru is obliged to khatam (recite the whole book) Al-Quran during education and training through the activities of Paskibraka Mengaji.

The Head of Youth for the Kotabaru Youth and Sports Agency (Dispora) Zulfikri said on Friday this might be a new breakthrough and the only one in Indonesia.

"In addition to the physical (they) also need mental coaching, including through religious activities in order to grow faith in God and are expected to later become daily habits," he said.

The Paskibraka Mengaji activity is conducted every night in the Kotabaru Vocational Training Center (BLK) hall. Since last year this place has become the center of the quarantine of Paskibraka Kotabaru.

After the Maghrib prayer congregation, members of the Paskibraka together with the trainers, committee members, and religious instructors carried out the Qur'anic reciting.

They are divided into two groups, each consisting of 30 people, and each person reads one juz of the Koran.

"If one juz is finished in a week, it means that during this training at least one group can be four times khatam," said Fikri.

For more than a week running, an average of khatam can be completed in four nights. Even to this day each group has succeeded in twice Khatam.

Meanwhile, there are 50 high school students from various schools in 13 sub-districts who passed the Paskibraka at Kotabaru District level.

They entered quarantine since July 15 and separated from their families.
