The Kalimantan Center of Roads and Bridges is repairing the Barito bridge in anticipation of possible bridge body damage.
Barito Bridge Maintenance Commitment Officer (PPK) Mirnasari Daulay here on Thursday said, because repairs are carried out on the bridge body, the traffic is carried out with the open and close system.
The open and close system used for the flow of traffic from Banjarmasin to Palangkaraya and vice versa will be carried out for seven days, day and night.
"This repairment takes quite a long time, which is 22 hours every day for seven days, specifically for the repair of the bridge body. Through the open and close system, it is expected not to disturb traffic flows from Banjarmasin or Palangkaraya," she said.
The Barito Bridge, which was inaugurated by President Soeharto on April 23, 1997, is the only bridge that connects South Kalimantan and Central Kalimantan.
Due to the relatively long age, added Mirna, it should not be possible to overload the bridge.
The opening and closing system is one of the efforts to avoid overloading of vehicle on the bridge.
