Tanah Bumbu District, South Kalimantan, was awarded as one of the successful pilots in the prevention of stunting in Indonesia.
"As a pilot in stunting prevention Tanah Bumbu was awarded by Director General of Building Regional Development of the Ministry of Home Affairs," the District Secretary of Tanah Bumbu Rooswandi Salem said in Batulicin, Wednesday.
He said that the achievement was a local government's effort to build a commitment in the effort to handle stunts gradually.
In addition to getting an award, the Tanah Bumbu Government was also asked to be a guest speaker for the stunting handling workshop.
As an illustration of the success of Tanah Bumbu, he mentioned that the district succeeded in reducing the prevalence of stunting to be better seen from Nutritional Status Monitoring (PSG) as released by the Ministry of Health during the 2015 to 2017 period.
In 2015, the prevalence of smallness of infants aged 0-35 months reached 31.5 percent. In 2016 it stood at 25, 41 percent and in 2017 it dropped to 17.9 percent, then in 2018 to 4.16 percent.
"Regarding the data, the regional government continues to try to suppress the stunting rate with action analysis, action planning activities, stunting consultation actions, and village authority regulatory actions about handling stunting," said Rooswandi Salem.
