Amuntai, South Kalimantan (AntaranewsKalsel) - Residents in the village of Sapala, North Hulu Sungai, began having difficulty obtaining clean water in the dry season.
Several villages in the sub-district of Paminggir unreached by taps water services from the regional water company (PDAM) rely solely on water channeled into homes through Pamsimas (community-based water supply and sanitation) Program.
"Water wells through Pamsimas is not able to meet all the needs of citizens, so many use the river water for bathing and washing," said Abdussalam, resident of Sapala Village on Tuesday.
Abdussalam said well water is only used by people for drinking water, because the wells water began limited in this dry season.
In the rainy season, he said, the discharge of water wells is still sufficient for some homes through Pamsimas, but if the dry season the water amount is insufficient.
"Residents of Sapala hope the government can increase the manufacture of new wells drilled through the existing Pamsimas Program so that citizens do not trouble to obtain clean water at the next dry season," said Abdussalam.
Abdussalam said residents were forced to switch to using river water though somewhat murky due water partly used by buffalo flowing into the river.
He said that most farmers are forced to divert buffalo wallowing in the flow of the river because the buffalo wallow areas start shallow and dry.
Nevertheless, he continued, the residents do not experience serious health problems, because they used to experienced the conditions every dry season.
