Tanjung, South Kalimantan (AntaranewsKalsel) - A total of 14 patients with leprosy in Tabalong, South Kalimantan, still get free treatment from the local health service.
According to the Head of Communicable Disease and Environmental Health (P2PL) of Tabalong Health Agency Ahmad Rivai here on Wednesday, in addition to be given free treatment, the development of the healing of the lepers are continuously monitored.
"Currently four lepers had been declared cured after treatment regularly to completion and other people still
get free treatment," said Ahmad.
Types of MB (Multi Basiler) or many germs leprosy patients that have been declared cured (Release From Treatment) two in the sub-district of Tanta, one in Muara Uya and one in Murung Pudak.
In addition to free treatment and monitoring progress of healing, the agency through medical officer at each health community center also seek early detection of disability and prevention of leprosy.
As one of the chronic infectious disease, caused by Mycobacterium leprae leprosy which primarily affects the peripheral nerves, skin and other organs except the
central nervous system.
To Antaranews, supervisors of eradication of leprosy, Tabalong Health Agency, Ahirudin revealed lepers in Earth's Saraba Kawa majority of productive age between 23 to 27 years and most are found in Sub-district Banua Lawas.
